Why Drink Tea?

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

                                              -Hippocrates, Father of Medicine.

In this infamous quote by Hippocrates, you will find the long and short of why we drink tea and why we encourage others to do so as well.  In our modern world, our typical food sources have become depleted of the nutrients they once provided for us, and the variety of foods we eat has also been cut down dramatically, leaving our bodies sorely depleted of the many phytonutrients we need to keep us free of dis-ease. Teas and Herbal Tisanes are an easy, and tasty way to add these much needed phytonutrients back into our diets.

The diffrences between Traditional teas & Herbal Tisanes

Traditional tea is made from the leaves of the plant Camellia sinensis, most commonly known as the tea plant. These are caffeinated and have energetic properties. There are a variety of ways the tea plant is prepared which creates the different varieties of tea, such as white, oolong, green, or black tea.

Herbal tisanes or herbal infusions are made from a blend of various leaves, fruits, bark, roots, or flowers belonging to almost any edible plant that is not Camellia sinensis.  Herbal tisanes are also non-caffeinated and are typically drank for their positive effects on your body's health.

There are a handful of other plants and herbs that also contain caffeine such as Yerba Mate and Guarana. On our website, any blends containing these will be listed under Traditional Teas.

Benifits of Drinking Teas

Teas are rich in a group of protective antioxidants called flavonoids, a subgroup of polyphenols which may be able to protect your heart, (12), reduce bad cholesterol, (3), lower your blood pressure, (4, 5), and significantly reduces your risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart disease, (6, 7).

Benefits of
Herbal Tisanes

Herbal tisanes offer an enormous variety of health benefits as there are a nearly endless variety of plants from which we can make herbal tisanes. Each herb has its own set of phytonutrients which help our bodies in different ways. And herbs are biological, and so they integrate with our bodies in a way that pharmaceuticals simply can't replicate. Our bodies know the plants and how to use them. While there are precautions and what are known as "contraindications" with plants just as there are with pharmaceuticals, the list is much smaller and most plants don't have any contraindications at all.
